O'Kelly Library Orientation: Library Services

This libguide will take you through some of the many services offered here at O'Kelly Library.

Library Services

All hardware items have a 5 hour checkout period, for use inside of the library only.

A Ram card and another form of photo ID are required to check out hardware items.

There are over 200 Dell desktop computer stations located throughout the library, which are available on a firstcome, first-served basis, for a maximum of five (5) hours.

All computers require a login. WSSU patrons log in with their ID number, visiting patrons must get a temporary sign in from the Information Commons Desk.

Files can only be saved on external sources. Please remember to save your work frequently to avoid losing your work!

We continue to seek ways to strengthen our partnership with faculty. See the services offered below and contact us for additional information.

Request Library Resources

Contact your library liaison if you need to order books, journal titles, or other resources to keep our collection current for your respective academic departments.

Course, Assignment and Research Planning

Are you developing a course, a new assignment or will you be pursuing long term research endeavors? Contact us as soon as possible so that your library liaison can work with you to assure that our collection meets your needs.

Interlibrary Loan is a service provided to assist users in obtaining materials and or resources, which are not available in O’Kelly Library. The loan process takes between 7 days to two weeks to be processed and received, so plan ahead to make the best use of this service.

Persons should exhaust all services and resources in O’Kelly Library prior to requesting an Interlibrary Loan. City Patrons, Co-op Students and Summer School Students are not eligible for Interlibrary Loan services.

For more information about how O’Kelly’s Interlibrary Loan service can help you, contact Sandra George, Interlibrary Loan Assistant, at (336)750- 2124.

Textbooks & Reserves Desk

The Textbooks & Reserves Desk sits alongside the Circulation Desk, located on the First Floor, West Wing. Services here require a Ram Card. All materials checked out from Textbooks & Reserves must be used in the building within a three (3) hour limit. Available texts are selected by faculty members as the required text for WSSU classes.

Reserve articles and books are placed in a collection with controlled access when an instructor assigns their classes to read the material.

All O’Kelly Librarians have LibGuide web pages to further assist the WSSU community with research and other academic needs. There are three print stations located in the O'Kelly Library: First Floor, West Wing, in the Information Commons, Second Floor, West Wing, near the Media Desk section, and the Second Floor, East Wing.

Documents created on computers on the first floor are printed at the first floor print station. Documents created on the second and third floor computers are printed on the second floor print station. Money for printing must be on your Ram Card in order to print. Printing is 10 cents per page. All print jobs not printed by the end of the day are automatically canceled by the print management software.

Most library services require you to have funds available on your Ram Card. The Ram Card Machine allows patrons to add money on their Ram Card and it is located on the First Floor, East Wing, in the alcove corner, left of the main entrance. Here you can add $1 to $5 to your card. The machine only accepts bills.

Replacement cards are purchased from the Ram Card office in the Thompson Center. Students can also place money on their Ram Card in the Cashier's Office located in the Thompson Center.

Throughout the library are individual study rooms. No appointment is needed to use any of these rooms and they offer an opportunity for patrons to read or study in quiet. These doors are always open so feel free to stop by one of these rooms.

If a larger space is needed, the Library Administrative Assistant (Room 227) can arrange a meeting or study room for that purpose. Rooms should be scheduled in advance by WSSU students, staff and faculty. Rooms can be booked four (4) continuous hours or longer with special permission from the Library Director.

To see a list of meeting rooms and their services, please visit our webpage, "Study & Meeting Spaces".

Food is allowed only in room 329 and light refreshments can be served in room 127.

University classes are not scheduled in the library to ensure that space is available for study and meetings.

You can request a large meeting or study room by calling (336)750-2440.

Textbooks are made available for students to use within the Library for a 3 hour period. Stop by the Circulation to find out more about this service.
